Latest Updates from Our Project:

Status on Reprint - July 21
over 2 years ago – Thu, Jul 22, 2021 at 05:40:52 PM

Greetings, Global Gladiators!

We’re back with a quick status update on the reprint and the main project it is part of, Tide of the Dragon:

The factory has finished printing all minis and paper content from the pre-Tide of the Dragon products (i.e. your reprints), and are finishing up the minis for the new Tide of the Dragon as we speak! Then it’s just a matter of finishing up the currently-ongoing paper content and VAC trays for the new stuff (Tide of the Dragon, New Challengers Pack, Rumble Pack) and then everything’ll move to final product assembly (i.e. putting it all in boxes and shrink wrapping them)!

Things definitely went longer than our original estimates due to both the extended verification process involving Rawstone (as detailed in this update), as well as overall manufacturing delays brought on by COVID-related delays/shutdowns, but we’re near the end my friends! Thanks so much for your patience during these delays, and we look forward to getting you your long-awaited missing content!

That’s it for this update, folks! We’ll be back with more news the moment we've got it!

almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 24, 2021 at 05:47:46 PM

Hey there, Global Gladiators!

We’re back with a new update regarding the reprint as we’ve received news from our partners that changes the timeline of things a little bit.

Pickup at Factory in August

Due to the ongoing delays worldwide with manufacturing and shipping (please see “Understanding the Global Shipping Crisis” below for more details), our partners in both industries estimate the reprint will be picked up at the factory in China in August at the earliest. This is affecting multiple titles we have there currently, including our upcoming Buddy Cop and Contra games. Our currently fulfilling Fantasy Series 1 project has also been suffering from the knock-on effects of the current state of the shipping world since 2020.

Now, while we hope a boat ride will take place shortly after said pickup at the factory in August, we want to make it clear that right now there are a lot of unknowns in the shipping world and we can't provide estimates beyond that timeframe; our partner QML is going to do it’s best to keep us updated on the situation and available timetables as info comes in (which we will then relay to you).

We understand this update might come as a disappointment to many (it has for us) but we want to make sure to clearly state that our partners will do everything in their power to get your goods out to you as quickly as possible using all the means available to them amidst these chaotic circumstances.

Understanding the Global Shipping Crisis

As you may or may not be aware, the shipping industry has been facing unprecedented issues since early 2020 thanks to COVID-19 and all the knock on effects it has had. This has affected all industries, including ours. That said, we continue to get messages daily from many backers and clients asking for more details on the crisis or ways of better understanding why things are slow and uncertain. So, we’ve tried to compile a comprehensive list of topics and links that explain in detail what’s been going on globally and how it affects us all. As well, we’ve added a TLDR (too long, didn’t read) summary for each topic that gives you the basic idea if you don’t want to check the links out.

We’re providing this info not to patronize or make excuses, but rather to get us all on the same page to better understand that things have changed so much since 2019, that we as publishers, consumers, and shippers can no longer expect things to be as simple as they were before. This is going to be the reality for the foreseeable future, so we need to work together to better understand where we sit.

As a primer, we highly recommend you watch this excellent video made by Jesse at Quackalope which opens the discussion in easy-to-understand terms.

Topic: COVID-19’s Effects on Logistics

TLDR:

Though we all know what happened since we lived/are living through it, what’s easily overlooked is when countries have independent lockdowns. We could be “business as usual” one day, then an isolated regional outbreak prevents ports from opening, shippers from operating, boats from sailing, containers from being filled, freight from freighting, and workers from working in integral areas of operation. And even when people do return, it’s a slow trickle in because even though everyone wants to work, everything is in an uncertain and ever-changing state.

Topic: Container Shortage

TLDR:

COVID-19 caused a container shortage in 2020: containers were not being returned, containers were abandoned, containers were being overbooked, and big companies were aggressively taking them by flexing muscle. This drove costs and demand higher. While China overbooked containers, costs began to inflate as containers became rare finds and illegal bidding/auctions to jump lines became a thing. It was a mess and there was almost no way for medium to small companies (across all industries) to get containers.

Topic: Container Price Squeeze

TLDR:

WIth the inflated price caused by shortages and demand, opportunists keep raising pricing and it’s said that it’ll be like this for the rest of the year. To give you perspective, pre-COVID a shipping container (depending on size) could cost $4,000-$6,000. Currently, the same container on average is about $19,000-$22,000 and maybe more depending on when you want it. We have paid for this price increase ourselves for our currently fulfilling projects and plan to continue to do so so that we do not have to request additional funds from our backers.

Topic: Limited Boat Bookings and Cargo Rolling

TLDR:

Prior to all this, you could put as many containers as you could afford on a boat. Now, however, there’s a limit on most cargo boats limiting 2 containers per company. For example, our currently fulfilling Fantasy Series 1 project to the US has 10 containers. This means we have to utilize 5 different boat schedules, if we’re lucky to get a slot (remember, companies from a wide range of industries are fighting for the same slots). There is no way we’re allowed to put 10 containers on one boat, even if there was space (new regulations prevent it). It’s gotten to the point where bigger non-tabletop gaming companies are being sly and opening sister companies to try to sneak more containers on board.

Because of this, we’re trying to be creative and work with QML and other publishers to try to share containers in order to get as much product out to the warehouse in the most efficient time. This isn’t ideal, clearly, but it’s the fastest way to get items to our warehouses to sort.

To top it all off, there is also cargo “rolling” to contend with, which is another major issue that’s going on now. What does it mean?

This also means trying to track boats is difficult/moot for partners as sometimes cargo can get switched onto different boats that are available at short notice without anyone realizing or cargo containers may be left behind for other containers due to mixup, not passing inspections, or due to possible side agreements that took precedence.

Topic: Port Congestion

United States

United Kingdom

TLDR:

Basically with the jam-up at ports, what normally takes a day and a half can take up to a week for boats to properly dock, people to move the containers off, customs/checks to be processed, and finally freighted trucks to pick up the containers to take to the warehouses.

Topic: Brexit

TLDR:

While it might not seem like it since it relates to a small portion of the globe, Brexit had a huge knock on effect on the shipping industry. With no disrespect intended, Brexit was uncharted territory and provided no solid plan for the shipping industry. For publishers trying to get things to the EU, we had to ship to the UK, then the UK to the EU, which meant we would get charged twice for duties/taxes/VAT. However, because nothing was really determined pre-Brexit, nobody could really predict what that meant financially. Which meant that it would be “wrong” for publishers to charge backers for these increases, so we've had to take the hit out of pocket (which was substantial, to say the least) for affected projects so far. To top it off, customs were a mess and disorganized to the point where they would send boats back or create bottlenecks/lockdowns with customs when they suddenly required more documentation from freight forwarders without letting anyone know. Needless to say, delays lasted weeks if not months.

----

In summary, the reprint project is currently slated to leave the factory in China in August and we hope to have a boat ride shortly afterwards, but we cannot provide any estimates at this point due to the ever-changing status of the shipping world. Rest assured, though, that everything will be done to get those of you missing stuff your rewards to you as quickly and safely as possible.

Once again, thank you dear backers for your patience as the world continues to adapt to this new reality and as we do our best to adapt in kind. We promise the wait will be worth it!

Status Update on Reprint - June 1
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jun 02, 2021 at 03:28:04 PM

Hi, Global Gladiators!

We're back with a brief update regarding the status of the reprint!

Reprint Status

The factory has finished printing and assembling all minis from the original Kickstarter and the Aftershock Kickstarter. Same with dice and rings. The rest of the paper content is in various stages of print, with assembly being close to complete. In other words, the "reprint" portion of the project is nearly complete!

Things have been a bit slower than usual as this reprint is also tied to Tide of the Dragon, the new product that is being made in collaboration with Rawstone, the Chinese publishing house who has been responsible for bringing Street Masters to the Chinese market. Tide of the Dragon was originally conceived for them right before we decided to offer it to the English-speaking market as well. We want to make sure all parties involved have the correct information and input capabilities for the project, thus the extra time required in every step of the process.

All that said, things are still moving forward overall and we hope to have news regarding freight schedules of your owed rewards soon (pickup at factory, international transport to hubs, etc)! As stated in the previous update, there were chances we'd go past our original May estimate and fall into a June/July window; indeed that's what's happened and we expect things to start moving later this month or July; of course, if we're advised of any changes to this schedule by either the factory or our shipping partners, we will let you know!

FAQs - General

I'm waiting on products from the reprint; you guys said that I'll be getting a product for free since I'm waiting for more than just the stretch goals. What is this product?

If your order was incomplete and you contacted us as instructed to in our past updates, you will be sent the New Challengers Pack for free. Check out the this update's "New Challengers Pack" section for details about this product.

I have missing or damaged components from my game that I am still waiting on (i.e. I have a QA ticket open). When will I get my replacement parts?

Once Quartermaster has our reprinted inventory in their possession, we will recommence addressing outstanding QA issues and ship out replacement components to affected backers. We will post another update as we get closer to that time with more information on how that process will be handled.

FAQ - I'm waiting on products from the reprint (not a QA ticket for defects/replacements); how do I change my address?

Please follow the instructions based on your shipping region:

Australia/New Zealand Backers

We at BLG cannot currently process address changes for this region, BUT our fulfillment partner for these regions, Aetherworks, will send out an address confirmation email about a week before fulfillment that will give you the opportunity to make any updates. The email will show the address that is currently on your order and give you the opportunity to update to a new address. It will come directly to the email that is connected to your pledge, so do keep an eye out for it as we get closer!

US/Canada Backers

We at BLG cannot currently process address changes for this region, BUT our fulfillment partner for these regions, QML, will send out an address confirmation email about a week before fulfillment that will give you the opportunity to make any updates. All Other Backers

Status Update on Reprint
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 24, 2021 at 03:14:54 AM

Greetings, Global Gladiators!

We're back with a brief update to advise anyone who might still be waiting for products that the reprint is coming along smoothly. All files are at the printers, and they're slowly pumping out proofs for us to go over, both of the reprint content and the new stuff created for Tide of the Dragon.

They’ve also been busy pumping out tons of minis; see the video below of factory workers assembling some of the classic lineup!

With regards to delivery, we’ve been told things are a little busy/slower at the factory these days due to various delays brought on not only by Chinese New Year in February (which is usually expected) but also due to various COVID-related restrictions that occurred in China earlier in the year (not expected). We currently seem to be on track for our original estimate of sometime in May, but there is a chance it might slip into June/July. We’ll make sure to keep you updated as we get more news from them as production ramps up!

New Challenger Pack Preview

As mentioned above and previously, those of you still waiting for more than just the stretch goals will be getting the New Challengers Pack for free! What's in it? Let's take a closer look!

The New Challenger Pack contains 6 full fighter decks and hero stories for some classic allies! We all know their stories from previous titles, so here are some quick previews of what to expect for their fighter decks.

You can click each image to enlarge it.

As a practitioner of Capoeira, Isabella needs to keep the rhythm in order to land her attacks. If she's ever offbeat, she's going to hurt herself!

Darius is a toxicologist, a skilled herbalist capable of producing some virulent poisons! He uses these poisons to slowly whittle away enemies' health... but also to cure ailments that might not be cured otherwise!

Mary Ann is a skilled fighter, but she isn't afraid to use whatever is around her to get the job done. In Street Masters, that means crates! She will not only get the loot hidden in these helpful boxes, but she will horde said boxes until she can find a way to use them offensively!

Zane is small, but dont underestimate his ability to spar with the best of them. He is capable of maximizing the use of his Tactic cards, and can also move enemies around the board in order to position them for the ultimate takedown!

Sera is a rebel, and this is represented by her ability to play multiple cards per turn if some of those are tagged as "Rebel" cards. She also has her very own rocket launcher (which she may or may not have lifted from Dmitri's personal stash)...

Mr. Apple thinks he's the best fighter out there. In reality, he's just a guy who likes to dance and who gets really, really lucky. Half the time he knocks opponents out, he isn't even aware he hit anyone! That said, his bizarre gyrations can hypnotize enemies and his shoes can have him move around the stage more than anyone! But, when he attacks, well... you're never sure what's going to happen...

That's it for now; we'll be back the moment we have more news to share with regards to the next steps!
