A Large Dose of Street Masters Fiction!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Jan 07, 2019 at 11:42:49 AM

Global Gladiators, it's been a little over a week since our campaign ended, and we're hard at work behind the scenes to make Aftershock (and all the goodies you unlocked) a reality.

While a proper update will be coming next month (as per the schedule mentioned in the last update), we did promise to provide you with the missing bits of lore for the last few items you unlocked. So, without further ado, here they are!

Wicked

Amy Damascus was a rebel. As the youngest member of an influential family, she was expected to act like a “good little princess” … but she’d have none of it. She’d talk back, she listened to heavy metal, and dressed in the blackest, most offensive clothing she could find. Locals called her a “goth weirdo” behind her back, and she was relentlessly teased by students at school. To make all the naysayers think twice before picking on her, she signed up for Krav Maga classes at the mall. It didn't take long for her to discover she had a knack for it, and paired with her hot-headed nature, it led to her getting into countless fights and lots of trouble.

It was on the morning of her family's move to Ransom City that she found Rayne, a young horned lizard, crawling around their old backyard. At first, she thought it looked weird, but decided to keep it because she had a soft spot for weirdos. He became her best friend, and she brought him everywhere she went, including to class on her first day at her new school in the big city. Unfortunately, some jocks spotted the reptile in her backpack and decided to confront her about it. She kicked their behinds, of course, but not before meeting Elliot, a local boy who tried to "defend her honor" (or something to that effect). They recognized they were both outcasts, and formed a strong friendship as a result.

One day during their summer break, she joined Elliot and other friends on a search of the local sewers. Some of their classmates had disappeared, and the news had said they’d last been seen near an underground access hatch. She couldn’t resist an opportunity to anger her parents, so she tagged along. Rayne was also along for the ride, bouncing around her backpack along with snacks, flashlights, and her great grandfather’s twin balisongs. The blades were priceless family heirlooms, but they were the only weapons she had access to ... and she wasn’t going into the sewers unprepared.

Shortly after they began exploring the dark, dank tunnels beneath Ransom City, mysterious explosions and thunderous, seemingly incessant earthquakes forced Amy and her friends to abandon the search. They ran back the way they came, but in the confusion managed to get separated. Lost, Amy ran towards the closest source of light ... but realized only as she turned the corner at full speed that the light was emanating from a large pool of glowing, green sludge. She slid and fell in, gripping her bag in the hopes it would somehow protect Rayne as the substance consumed them both.

Months have passed since that day, and Amy now lives in the sewers as a student of Master Pie, the talking, martial artist cat that found her. He’d explained that her previous life had been eradicated in the blast, and that she’d been reborn as a mutated horned lizard, the result of her old body fusing with her beloved Rayne. He told her to pick a new name to reflect this, and all she could think of was the word Elliot, who goes by Crunk now, kept shouting the moment she displayed her bizarre ability to shoot blood from her eyes: “Wicked!”

With Master Pie helping her master Krav Maga, as well as elements of Filipino knife fighting to take advantage of her twin balisongs, she is now the deadliest of his students, her blades’ sharpness rivaled only by that of her tongue.

Glam

Courtney Smith grew up in the south, groomed to be a star by her fanatical mother who sought to live her life vicariously through her. Entered in countless pageants as a child, and forced to take vocal and dance lessons in between, Courtney spent her early years rehearsing for activities she cared little for. All the training paid off years later, however, when a local radio station played her self-produced single, “Like, Wow! I’m Outrageous!” It spread like wildfire throughout the nation’s airwaves, and she became an overnight sensation. The public couldn’t get enough of her, resulting in new singles and hundreds of appearances across the country.

Her star shone bright for months … until a new star outshone it. A fresh-faced girl named Robin soon stole the spotlight with her infectious debut single, and Courtney’s fans were quick to dump her to follow this latest craze. Courtney’s mother would have none of it, of course, and viciously attacked Robin during an appearance at the local mall. Luckily, the new teen idol walked away with only a few bruises thanks to her security detail, but Courtney's life was irreparably changed: she was forced to move to Ransom City to live with an aunt she’d never met while her mother served a lengthy sentence behind bars.

Students at her new school made fun of her, calling her a “washed up singer with a psycho mom”. She had a hard time dealing with these attacks, especially since she’d never asked for time in the limelight. She’d never wanted to be a star; that was all her mom’s doing. She just wanted a normal life, one that didn’t revolve around her musical career. Treated as an outcast among her peers, she found solace sitting at “loser’s table” during lunch time, where she met the class nerd and weird goth girl. They welcomed her with open arms and cared little for her past (mostly, turns out, because they didn't listen to pop music and had no idea who she was).

Their friendship blossomed quickly, which is how she found herself running through a dark sewer when the missiles hit the city months later. She’d joined her friends in a search for lost classmates, and it had all gone very badly once the tunnels started collapsing around them. Being an incredibly athletic dancer, she had easily surpassed her friends without noticing during their escape, and had found herself alone very quickly. The ground soon gave way, plunging her into a pool of neon-green sludge below. When she awoke later on, she was being tended to by a giant, talking cat in some sort of karate outfit. She wanted to scream ... but all that came out was a joyful squeal powered by the overwhelming cuteness the feline exuded.

Before she could say anything, she caught a reflection of herself in a nearby panel of shattered glass: she was still wearing her clothes, but her skin was all green and her face was not her own. The cat introduced itself as Master Pie and, sensing her puzzlement, explained that she’d fused with a chameleon that had escaped from the zoo above. She then noticed her other friends nearby, themselves turned into reptiles, and the momentary sense of dread she felt was replaced by one of relief.

Courtney has gone by the name Glam since her “rebirth” and has trained under Master Pie to use her prowess and strength as a dancer to become proficient in savate, and her frequent use of dance ribbons to skillfully wield a chain dart.

Grill

Deon Williams grew up in the projects, raised by his deadbeat uncle and harassed by his no-good cousins. He was a good kid, learning to love the arts from his parents before they were caught in the crossfire of a gang fight. He was an excellent painter, and had a kind heart. Unfortunately,
Deon’s cousins Michael and Tim were part of a gang called the Centipedes, and didn’t like being associated with a “nice kid” who “liked to paint”. They decided Deon needed to toughen up if they were going to live together and forced him to join in on jobs and raids to slowly increase his street cred. Deon was against the whole idea at first, but after a few beatings, came around and did as they said. As the years passed, he became the Centipedes’ scout, using his lanky frame to squeeze in and out of enemy territory on a regular basis. He was in too deep to back away, and reluctantly embraced the "tough guy" role. He dressed like his brothers in arms and even spent his savings on a plated mouth grill to earn more respect.

At school, Deon kept the “gangsta” facade up, but deep down, he was tired. He just wanted to be himself. He wanted to paint. The pressure of pretending to be something he wasn't got to him one day, and he hid under the bleachers after class in order to be alone. A nerdy kid named Elliot caught him shedding a few tears and, understanding what it’s like to feel helpless, invited him to his small circle of friends. There, Deon felt free; there was no need to keep up the act. He reverted to his old self, making it clear to his new friends that he was a gentle spirit ... and a total goofball who liked to joke around.

One day during the summer, Deon sneaked away from the Centipedes’ HQ without warning. He’d used his talents as a scout to get away without alerting anyone … but his cousins knew him too well. They spotted him leaving, and followed him into the sewers where he met up with his friends. Apparently, the four teens were going to save some missing classmates who were lost inside. Michael and Tim couldn’t allow this to happen; they needed to teach Deon a lesson that hanging around with these losers was a no-no.

It wasn’t long before the missiles hit and everyone was trapped inside the sewers as the tunnels began to collapse. Deon lost track of his friends, and as he ran towards their last known location, bumped into his cousins. They were panicking, trying to find their own way out, and pushed him out of the way so they could get by ... forcing him into the nearby stream, where a large clump of neon-green sludge floated over him.

When Deon awoke, he heard Courtney’s voice. “Deon,” she said. “Promise you won’t freak out.” He wasn't sure what she was talking about, but when his eyes focused on the reptile-monster standing next to him, he screamed … unleashing an incredibly long tongue that smashed an old pipe nearby. Startled by what he did, Deon jumped up ... only to realize he was now sticking to the ceiling.

Reborn as a half-man, half-gecko mutant, Deon, or Grill as his friends now call him, has shed his previous "bad boy" skin and has fully embraced his inner softy. That hasn't stopped him from wanting to defend himself or his friends, however, so he's learned to master Judo, Hapkido, and Aikido with the help of Master Pie, their feline guardian. Unlike the rest of his reptilian pals, Grill refuses to use weaponry in combat as he can’t seem to wield anything without having it stick to his hands. Instead, he prefers to use his massive tongue as a flail … and as a way of dragging enemies in close to finish them off with his offensive techniques.

Recyclord

Daniel Isley was an activist for environmental issues and believed that humanity had been destroying the planet for decades. His charm and strong voice led to him becoming the face of the opposition to corrupt industrialists who failed to meet environmental protection standards. Of course, money from these powerful tycoons crushed Daniel’s plans every time he would petition or hold protests, and as time went on, he became a frustrated, angry man. One night, he decided to take matters into his own hands to ensure these people paid for their crimes against Mother Earth. He hired people on the dark web to find and release compromising information on his enemies, forcing them to step down from their positions of power. Feeling emboldened by his initial string of successes, he took it a step farther and began sneaking into and sabotaging facilities that were on his “hit list”. He continued crossing lines until the media officially dubbed him an eco-terrorist.

Daniel’s efforts eventually led him to Parasol Incorporated, a company he knew was discarding toxic waste into sewers and waterways across the world. He sneaked into their Ransom City HQ in order to set it ablaze, but was captured by mysterious agents that looked nothing like standard Parasol security guards. An enigmatic man, introducing himself only as “The Proxy”, sealed Daniel in a drum barrel labeled “Failed V.A.N.D.A.L.” and tossed it into the sewers, where he was left to die. As the toxins in the barrel ate away at his body, he heard a loud series of explosions, and the contents of the barrel lit up a bright neon-green. He felt a surge or power course through what he thought was his limbs … and then everything faded to black.

As Daniel awoke in the sewer tunnels amid an earthquake of sorts, he realized he was much bigger than he’d been before. So big, in fact, that he couldn’t regain his balance to stand up. He tried to stabilize himself on a nearby crate, but his hand quickly absorbed it and he doubled in size. What was happening? He stared at his arms and legs and realized they were the consistency of warm wax, clumpy and wet. Before he could question what he was seeing, two teenagers appeared in a nearby archway and began firing their guns at him. He raised an arm to shield himself, and what can only be described as a tentacle shot out from his hand and wrapped itself around his assailants. It quickly retracted, dragging the boys to him where they were absorbed like the crate before them.

Parasol, Inc. has taken over the ruins of Ransom City since that day, and whispers of a giant sewer monster haunt their encampments. They call it “Recyclord”, an immense being that absorbs and repurposes anything and everything in its path. Many dismiss these claims as nothing but the product of overactive imaginations …

Micky Scott Story Deck

Fresh from his latest stint in the slammer, Micky entered his Brook City penthouse a free man. Sure, he’d done some time, but nowhere close to what his sentence called for. After all, when you’re a world-famous rock star, you don’t stay in an orange jumpsuit for long. He poured himself a tumbler of his favorite rum and made his way to his private studio. He was ready to get back to what he was born to do: shred some strings and lay down some vocals for the next Altar Stone single. The rest of the band would be joining him eventually, but he’d get a head start on things.

The sight upon entering the room was horrifying: his guitars were smashed, the recording panels were fried, and shattered glass lay everywhere. He stood there a moment, letting it all sink in. "Great," he mumbled. "Now it’s going to take forever to record.” He took out his cellphone and called his agent, telling him to order replacements because some moron had trashed the place while partying. He hung up and sat down in his favorite chair. He wondered if Jangles might have gotten blackout drunk, as he often liked to do, or if Freddy, who had a tendency to break things when he couldn’t get riffs just right, had screwed up his last recording. Either way, he’d be chewing their ears off when they arrived.

As he sat there, feet up on a nearby speaker, he noticed an envelope stuck to the wall with a large knife. That’s new, he thought. He got up, plucked the blade from the wall, and emptied out the envelope. A note came tumbling out:

WE HAVE SKID. BRING 20 MILLION IN CASH TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS OR YOU’LL NEVER SEE YOUR BROTHER ALIVE AGAIN.

A photo was attached, and on it was, sure enough, a bound-and-gagged Skid. Dumb kid. Always getting in trouble, and always relying on his older bro to get him out of it. Skid knew he was the only thing on this planet Micky couldn’t replace with his bottomless bank accounts, and he knew that meant Micky would always go out of his way to make sure he was safe.

Micky put on his second-favorite leather jacket, his latest pair of designer sunglasses, and grabbed the deadliest weapon he owned from his hidden safe: his signature platinum Flying V. He strapped it to his back and took the elevator down to his private garage. His driver got up from his seat, but Micky motioned for him to sit back down. “Take a break, Tony,” he said. “I’ve got this.” He walked past his exotic performance cars and sports utility vehicles and removed the sheet covering his vintage Road Buzzard. He ran his hand over its tank, remembering that he’d worked on it with Skid years ago, turning his little brother into the gear-head he was today.

He hopped on, started her up, and tore out of the garage like a bat out of hell. He was going to find his brother ... and make sure the punks who took him regretted ever being born.

We Conquered the Aftershock!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 06, 2019 at 08:35:19 AM

Global Gladiators, we did it! After a whole month of non-stop action, our Kickstarter campaign has come to an end. Not only did we successfully fund Street Masters Aftershock, we blew way past funding and unlocked a total of 56 incredible stretch goals

We now have an incredible story to tell all those who missed out on this fantastic experience. Actually, you know what, let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit it together!

A Tale of Survival in the Aftershock

As we began our nighttime trek through the ruins of Ransom City, attempting to stay ahead of Parasol Inc.'s cleanup crew, we arrived at a deserted building known to have once been a Citadel field office. If we wanted to survive the rigors of this wasteland, we'd need to arm ourselves with any information we could find. Inside a safe, we uncovered some interesting files that detailed all nearby areas and offered important intel on persons of interest we might encounter. We pocketed everything, as these files would undoubtedly prove useful as we made our plans on how to tackle the challenges ahead. Nearby, in the dusty husk of an old desk, we found a manila folder that contained data on an old foe: Dmitri, leader of The Brotherhood. This explained that he'd been stockpiling new weapons prior to the Aftershock in an attempt to find ways of upgrading his arsenal. We were unsure if we'd encounter him any time soon ... but he always popped up when you least expected it.

We later arrived at the old Ransom City docks, and met a fellow survivor named Jack. He said he was there to reminisce about the old days before the disaster. He told us stories of the mob family that once ran the area, the Cifarelli Family. He explained how he often clashed with them as they tried to tighten their grip over the locals, and how he'd witnessed their corruption spread far and wide, even affecting his friend Jen and turning her against him.

Jack joined us on our march through the rubble. As acid rain began to pour, we ducked into an old movie theater to seek shelter. Inside, while foraging for food, we found yet another manila folder, this one detailing plans for Juan's attempt at strengthening his Cartel. What was this doing here? Were we meant to find this? We also found some odd looking colored discs; Murphy tried to eat one before he realized they weren't candy. We felt they'd still be useful, however, so we kept them handy.

Suddenly, we heard a howl in the distance. We paused, then looked at each other, unsure if we'd been exposed to too many V.A.N.D.A.L. fumes or if we'd actually heard what we thought we heard. Suddenly, a werewolf crashed through the window and landed on top of Leeta. Ronny tried to help, but a large golem-like creature in a bridal gown grabbed her by the arm, and a little critter with a big knife took a swing at Vada. As if things couldn't get any worse, the front doors were kicked open by a raving lunatic wielding a chainsaw! Her maniacal laugh was almost as loud as her instrument as she charged toward Murphy, who didn't notice because he was still trying to eat the not-candy.

She was almost upon the group when, out of nowhere, Micky Scott, famed leader of the band Altar Stone, appeared and hit her in the head with his guitar. His presence in the disaster zone came as a surprise, but we welcomed all the help we could get! He ran into the fray, his guitar held high. Meanwhile, Jack got the werewolf off Leeta, who then rejoined the fight by swinging her crowbar at the nearest creature. Things were looking grim ... until, out of the shadows, came a leather-clad warrior brandishing a stake. As lightning struck outside, she dashed forward and plunged her teeth into the neck of chainsaw woman. We wanted to thank her for the assistance, but thought it best to get out of there and let her do her thing!

As we made our escape in the moonlight, we ran faster than we ever had before. It was as if we'd been super-charged with adrenaline! We couldn't help but wonder if we'd been followed, but thought it best to continue. If we lingered too long, the rumored "abandoned" creatures might find us. As we crawled through an old service tunnel, we came across the corpse of man wearing a Citadel agent pin. There wasn't much left of him, but his steel briefcase remained intact. The lock was broken, so we took a peek inside. Files on Governor Max. What had happened to him, we wondered. We also found notes detailing the last known movements of The Golden Dragons, the nefarious gang led by Ah Long. Looks like they'd been up to no good since the last time we'd encountered them ...

Seconds later, in the distance, a fight broke out in an old schoolyard between Parasol agents and a smaller group. It was hard to see, but what we witnessed was incredible. A man brandishing a katana was moving swiftly through his foes, slicing them up as he went. A woman, perched on top of an overturned tanker truck, was firing off arrows from her bow at lighting speeds, keeping Parasol reinforcements at bay. A few troops managed to get through, firing their weapons, but a young man stood between them and his allies while generating some sort of force field! It would have been the sight of the night, if it hadn't been for the younger woman who jumped down from a ledge above ... and struck the ground so hard a brilliant wave of destruction plowed through their assailants. When our vision returned, the quartet was gone. As we tried to understand what we'd just witnessed, an even stranger thing happened: a lone panda walked through the wreckage, sniffing the ground where the warriors had stood. It looked around briefly, then disappeared into the night.

We arrived in the old Neon Strip district a little while later as the sun was rising. We heard this area used to be ruled by a tech-savvy street gang known as Cybertooth Crew. They say its leader, Miss Matrix, was once engaged in an incredibly spectacular chase with a Brook City police officer right here, on this very street. Jack regaled us with tales of how he and his friend Wildfire also clashed with the famous hacker and her gang in the past, when the streets were painted with neon lights and buzzed with life, before tragedy struck the city. Now, all the night clubs and restaurants were but shells of their former selves ...

We sought shelter in one of the blown out clubs, and while we were gathering supplies to dry off, we found a secret room in the basement. It was running on a generator, and actually had electricity! Countless computer monitors hummed to life as we entered. They flashed data on The Kingdom, the terrorist organization thought to be responsible for what had happened here all those months ago. They also flashed data on a gang known as The Onyx League and individuals named Clint and Tiger Azules. Was this... was this one of Miss Matrix's old hideouts?

Suddenly, an old manhole built into the floor popped open and five ... well, "beings" is the only word that comes to mind, came climbing out in a hurry. We stood dumbfounded, staring at these overgrown reptiles and their overly-adorable feline companion, until one of them replied with "Don't just stand there, dudes and dudettes! Run!" We had no idea why we needed to run, but we did. We climbed out of the basement, jumped through the window frames and kept up with our new friends ... until the ground shook so hard we were all knocked off our feet.

As we tried getting up, we looked at the dust cloud that hung over the now-destroyed building we'd just been in. Within its swirling particles, an immense being made of an assortment of trash stood up. "Reptiles!" it shouted. "I have you now!" In unison, all four of our lizard friends exclaimed: "Oh no, it's Recyclord!"

We were lost for words, certain our doom was at hand. Was this truly the end?

"I don't think so! C'mon bro, let's show this thing how we do things in Ransom City!"

We turned to see two men, twins to be exact, standing at the ready, looking like they were ready for a fight. They were devilishly handsome, there's no denying it. Before we could introduce ourselves, they noticed a certain member of our party and looked most displeased. "Wait a minute," said the one in green. "Is that Micky Scott? What are you folks doing with that lowlife?"

We asked what they meant, and the man in blue replied with "Oh, when we're done sending this monster back where it came from, we'll tell you a story that'll make you understand."

With that, the entire party charged forward with a frenzied battle cry. It was time to keep fighting.

THE END ... for now!

Hope you enjoyed our little recap, and we really hope you enjoyed the campaign! The entire team worked hard to make it a memorable experience for all of you, to keep the excitement and momentum going throughout! Let us know in the comments how the experience was for you!

Looking to the Future - Pledge Manager

When is the Pledge Manager?

We are working with our Pledge Manager partner to start setting things up. We estimate about 2-3 weeks from now and it will be open for pledges for about a month, but maybe more depending on production and demand.

What can I do in the Pledge Manager? Is it required?

If you pledged at least $1, you will be invited to our pledge manager which will allow you to upgrade your tier, add anything you missed in the campaign, update your shipping address (otherwise we won't know where to send you your games) and will also guide you to completing your pledge and finalize shipping.

What if my credit card is declined?

Don't worry! Kickstarter will keep trying and sending you notifications for about a week. If you have another credit card you can change it and Kickstarter will charge the correct one. If for some reason you're not able to fix your payment option before Kickstarter closes your pledge, just send us a Kickstarter message and once the pledge manager is ready, we'll send you a link so you can still get the same tier and items from the campaign.

Looking to the Future - Update Schedule

Now that the campaign is over, we'll be keeping our updates to once a month in order to accumulate as much news as possible!

Looking to the Future - Bios for the Reptiles, Recyclord, and a tease of Micky's Hero Story

One exception to the "one update a month" rule above: we still owe you the bios for the last three Renegade Reptiles and their arch-nemesis Recyclord! We should also tease Micky's Hero Story a bit, yeah?

We thought the recap story above would be a bit more fun for tonight's closing update, but have no fear: we'll write a quick follow-up update in the next few days to deliver the fiction you're all craving!

From the Blacklist Games team

From the entire team at Blacklist Games, we want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you who joined us on this incredible journey! You guys made this campaign the success that it is, and because of all your passion and dedication, Street Masters will reach a whole new audience next year, and reward our existing fans with brand new content with which to revisit the universe.

We loved spending the last month with all of you, sharing the excitement of stretch goal reveals and hearing your ideas. It was like coming home, seeing all our returning friends and catching up! We also made tons of new friends, and were further inspired by their feedback and positive contributions to our growing community! Those who missed the campaign, its non-stop unlocks, the great jokes, the deep discussions, the SG bandit, and the chase for Micky's Hero Story deck won't get how fun, dedicated, and positive our community is, but we'll know and will use it as a source of inspiration as we continue to work hard to make games you will love!

Now, let's get this game made!

A Taste of Things to Come ...

The ruined lands of Aridika have a dark past; cursed by the Doomchild who bound herself beneath the soil to plunge the world above into an age plagued by demons and undead. Her dark curse empowered the fiends that hid from civilization, drawing them out to claim dominance over the races they deemed weaker. The Doomchild's power manifested into powerful stones, called altars, that burst forth from the earth to empower her servants. Now, true heroes must arise to cleanse these altars, and remove the stain of corruption before the Doomchild awakens...

Altar Quest is a cooperative game of fantasy adventure for 1–4 players. Designed by Adam and Brady Sadler, Altar Quest draws upon the success of their Modular Deck System (introduced in Street Masters and Brook City) and is based in their all-original setting inspired by high fantasy and gothic horror. Featuring standalone quests, campaign play, and highly modular gameplay, Altar Quest puts players into the roles of powerful heroes seeking to drive the forces of darkness away from the altars that corrupt the world.

See you all again soon! And remember ...

You Asked for It. You Got It!
over 5 years ago – Fri, Nov 30, 2018 at 08:39:09 PM

Global Gladiators. What. A. Day. You unlocked four new stretch goals! And we aren't slowing down! You guys are awesome! We're totally gobsmacked over here.

With so much content unlocked, we need to celebrate. How? Well, read on ...

Soul of the Cherry Blossom Story Deck

You've unlocked the deck that will explain the motivations of both Clan Hattori and Chan Chan: the Soul of the Cherry Blossom Story Deck!

Clan Hattori seems like a benevolent family. Chan Chan should be a docile, lovable creature. What happened to them to make them go bad? Why are they at each other's throats? What do The Kingdom and The Citadel have to do with either? You'll find out in this exciting new Story Deck!

As a reminder, Street Masters offers both an action-packed “Arcade Mode”, where players completely customize their experience with any desired combination of fighters, bosses, stages, and allies/rivals to create a "one-shot" gaming session, as well as a narrative campaign “Story Mode,” where the fighters’ victories, defeats, and choices help unravel the lore of the game while carrying them through exciting adventures.

In “Story Mode,” you'll start by choosing one of many possible Stories to play, and, after reading the introductory narrative, set up its first stage according to instructions. At the end of this first stage, you'll read the results section to see how you did. Generally, victory will result in boons, while defeat inflicts dangerous penalties. Either way, these results will follow you through the story, so be careful! The results will also dictate which stage of the Story's branching path you will take on next. Therefore, your actions will determine how you progress through the Story, and you won't see every possible stage on your first play through!

The Kingdom Showdown Deck

Now you've done it. Kemono's gonna getcha! You've unlocked the Showdown Deck for The Kingdom, meaning all four enemy factions from the Street Masters core box now have ways of upgrading their decks and chasing you through Story Mode!

As a reminder, Showdown Decks are a new type of story deck that can be used in any Story Mode game, adding a villainous character working in the shadows against the fighters. Each Showdown Deck introduces a unique story for the associated enemy deck, as well as upgrade cards that will replace certain cards in said enemy deck. This means that as you and your fellow fighters try and complete the main Story, as well as any chosen Hero Stories, an enemy faction using its Showdown Deck will continually pop up, each time wielding an upgraded deck! Players can also choose to include these enemy upgrade cards in their Arcade Mode games to increase overall difficulty and customize their games even further.

Wildfire

You've unlocked a brand-new Kickstarter Exclusive Fighter, ladies and gents! Say hello to Wildfire!

As with all her fellow fighters, Wildfire comes with a highly detailed miniature, a unique 25 card Fighter Deck, and a Hero Story Deck.

Biskane never understood her people’s inability to fully embrace the modern world. As the village chief’s daughter, she respected tradition just as much as everyone else, but refused to let it dictate the flow of her life. She’d been groomed since a young age to take over as the local “spirit caller” when the time was right, but not only did she not believe in spirits, it wasn’t what she wanted. She wanted to make her mark on the world, wanted to make a difference. This led to Biskane moving away and becoming a regional police officer, much to the chagrin of her family, who claimed she was “walking away from her birthright and sacred duty.” It pained her to disappoint them, but she knew this was a better way of protecting them and the land.

That changed the night the great spirits came to her in a dream. They spoke to her, told her to migrate southward in order to help the needy, to find her true calling in life. When she awoke, she realized she could still hear them. She could feel their presence inside her. The great crane. The powerful bear. The almighty thunderbird. She felt her body catch fire from the inside as these beings flowed through it like the blood in her veins ... and then nothing. They were gone, but she knew they'd return. She hurried home to her village, hoping her father had answers. His only words to her, delivered with a hand on her shoulder and a proud look in his face, were: “We knew this day would come. Your journey has only just begun, my Wildfire. Go. Let the spirits’ words guide you.”

With that, Biskane quit her job as a police officer and became a drifter, venturing from town to town on her motorcycle, guided by the spirits she could now call at will. Her travels recently brought her to Ransom City, where her first encounter with its citizens was during a street clash between rival mob families. She helped innocents to safety, but as the conflict quickly grew out of hand, she began to fight back. The numbers quickly grew against her ... but then a young man bravely threw himself into the mix and began to fight at her side. The great Nooke spoke to her and told her this man was important, that they were bound.

As the street fight raged on, the two of them stood back to back. “Thought you could use a hand," said the young man. "Name’s Jack.”

Biskane paused for a moment. "Wildfire," she said with a grin.

Clint Hero Story Deck

Wow, nice shootin' Tex! You've unlocked Clint's Hero Story deck!

There have been reports of a lone gunman taking out drug cartels around Juarez. The gunman’s skills are uncanny and he acts almost like a grizzled Robin Hood, taking out gang members and giving their loot to local orphanages ...

Clint is a wealthy philanthropist who happened upon a lot of money from owning several acres of land with rich oil coursing through it. He's also a vocal protester against guns and the right to conceal weapons.

Having grown up in an orphanage, Clint often investigates cases of missing children in his spare time. He recently discovered that a mysterious organization known as The Kingdom has been the source of many disappearances, and decided to investigate warehouses that were supposedly under their control.

Unfortunately, they caught him snooping around. He tried to escape, but when he was cornered by guards ... he instinctively knocked one over, grabbed his pistol, and, as if in a trance, flawlessly took out six nearby assailants before running out of ammo. He immediately snapped out of it, dropping the pistol and staring at his hands. How had he done that? He'd never touched a pistol in his life ...

Redemption II

You asked, we listened! Ladies and gentleman, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that Redemption II is now available as an add-on!

In this absolutely incredible, Kickstarter Exclusive pack, you will be able to play not 6, not, 7, not 8, not 9 ... but 10 of your favorite bosses as Fighters! That's right, in this pack each boss receives his own unique, 25-card Fighter Deck!

Who is in the pack, you ask? Take a look!

  • The Proxy (from Aftershock)
  • Project X (from Aftershock)

Oh, and did we mention each new fighter comes with his own unique Hero Story deck? That's right, just like in the original Redemption pack (also available in our add-ons), you'll be able to follow these misguided, misunderstood souls through twisted tales in Story Mode, and upgrade their decks between stages!

Cats and Dragonmen?
over 5 years ago – Wed, Nov 21, 2018 at 11:35:13 AM

One day left, Global Gladiators! It's been a long ride, and we're reaching our destination. Let's give it our all as we approach the finish line, yeah? Share the campaign with all your social media contacts, friends and family, and let's end with fireworks!

Until then, it seems we're still unlocking tons of stretch goals! What's our current tally? 49? Really? Yes, that's right, we're one stretch goal away from 50! That's incredible! The Aftershock Stretch Goals Box is officially a giant treasure trove of Street Masters goodness, and it's all yours! What do you say we keep going and add a couple more goodies in there, hmm?

In the meantime, let's take a look at the latest arrivals.

Cybertooth Crew Showdown Deck + System Crash Story Deck

Cybertooth Crew just got a lot sharper: you’ve unlocked their Showdown Deck! On top of that, you’ve also unlocked the System Crash story, bringing together Pux, Lola, Sin-D, Miss Matrix, Renae, and their stages!

With regards to Story decks, Street Masters offers both an action-packed “Arcade Mode”, where players completely customize their experience with any desired combination of fighters, bosses, stages, and allies/rivals to create a "one-shot" gaming session, as well as a narrative campaign “Story Mode,” where the fighters’ victories, defeats, and choices help unravel the lore of the game while carrying them through exciting adventures.

Master Pie

Awww, isn’t he cute? You’ve unlocked Master Pie, who comes with his own highly detailed mini and Rival/Ally card!

Johnny Magnus was once a con artist posing as a karate instructor in the wealthy part of Ransom City. From his “dojo”, he would scam busy parents into letting him teach their kids “martial arts” and “self-discipline”. Of course, what he taught them was anything but, and folks were none the wiser. Unfortunately for Johnny, he got greedy and ran the scam too long, which was long enough for kids with actual karate backgrounds to catch on and blow the whistle.

Johnny was run out of the neighborhood, his name tarnished and reputation destroyed. He became a drunk, eventually losing his apartment and being forced to live on the street. He eventually found himself a nice, quiet corner of the local sewer to call home, and befriended a stray cat named Cutie Pie (at least, that’s what her collar said). She was loving and caring, and always calmed him down. Together, they scraped by, foraging for food and begging for change. One night while panhandling, he was recognized by some of his old “students”, who promptly mugged him for the few possessions he had with him. Later, while recovering back home in the sewer, he found old martial arts magazines that had been thrown away. He decided then and there to dedicate himself to reading them all and learning how to properly defend himself. He eventually used all the knowledge he’d acquired to develop a style of his own, a true blend of the most popular martial arts.

When the missiles hit Ransom City and super-charged the V.A.N.D.A.L. sludge he had unknowingly been exposed to in the sewer, Johnny mutated and fused with Cutie Pie, combining their genetic sequences and personality traits. When he awoke and noticed his reflection in the water, he wanted to scream … but didn’t. He was noticeably calm, something he had rarely been in the past. He also felt stronger, more agile than before; he felt like a million bucks, truth be told. He looked at himself once more, this time noticing that some of Cutie Pie’s collar had grafted to his skin, with only the word “Pie” sticking out. It was a sign he'd been reborn as a new entity, given a second chance at life. He dusted off and donned his old karategi from his “dojo” days and decided that he would make amends for his previous life by correcting his mistakes. He would master his technique in the hopes of becoming a true teacher some day. Then, he heard the scream coming from down the tunnel ...

Crunk

He's smart, he's quick, he's a tank ... he's Crunk, a brand new fighter! Crunk comes with a 25-card Fighter Deck and a highly detailed miniature!

Elliot Chan was a nerdy kid in high school who loved anime, comics, video games, and board games. He was incredibly intelligent … but also socially awkward and physically weak. This motivated him to join the Magnus Dojo, a karate school he’d seen an ad for in a comic book. He knew this would be his ticket to going from wimp to winner. Unfortunately, all he was taught was how to repaint the studio space and wash the windows of its trophy cases. He was awarded a brown belt after a month, but realized he hadn’t been shown anything remotely close to karate. It was all a scam.

He quit and returned to his usual routine, going to school and being humiliated on a daily basis by bullies. One day, however, the bullies were picking on a new student. A “goth girl” whose “weirdness” had been whispered of between classes. Elliot was attracted by the fact that they were both social outcasts … and her beauty. He felt a need to do something, and walked up to the jocks who were tormenting her. He told them to leave her alone, which angered their leader. He took a swing at Elliot … who swatted it away with ease. Shocked, the bully threw another couple of punches, but Elliot again deflected them. It felt natural, reminiscent of the movements needed to perform the mundane chores from the dojo. Had he actually learned something from Johnny Magnus? As he contemplated this strange turn of events, the remaining bullies pounced on him. He expected to be beaten to a pulp … but when the blows didn’t come, he opened his eyes. The bullies were balled up in a corner, crying and wiping at their bloody lips and torn clothing. He turned his gaze to the goth girl, who was dusting off her polished black boots. She turned and noticed the puzzled look on his face. “What?” she said. “I know Krav Maga.” She helped him up and introduced herself as Amy.

Their friendship blossomed during the rest of the school year, and when summer hit, they spent even more time together. One July night, they heard that some of their classmates had disappeared while live-action role-playing in the sewers. Elliot, Amy and some friends packed some supplies and headed out to investigate in the hopes of finding clues to their whereabouts. They entered the sewage system via an old service hatch near the city zoo, and began searching. Suddenly, a massive explosion shook the Earth, sending shock waves throughout the city and its underground. The vibrations got worse, and the teens decided to start heading back when they noticed all the rats and other odd animals in the tunnels running in the opposite direction. They ran as fast as they could, but the sludge they were moving through got thicker and thicker until it started glowing. Elliot felt a sudden surge of pain … and then nothing.

When Elliot awoke, he screamed. His arms, legs and body were twice their original size and … he had a tail? He was covered in scales and he felt strong, really strong. As he turned around, he screamed again as he saw a giant cat standing over him. Years have passed since that moment, and Elliot’s old life, destroyed in the attack on Ransom City, has been replaced by his new one as Crunk, half man, half Komodo dragon. The cat, calling itself Master Pie, taught him Hung Gar Kung Fu, which led to his mastery of animal styles such as Tiger, Crane, Snake, and Leopard. Pie also taught him to wield the Chinese Dao with grace and ferocity; it is now his weapon of choice. Crunk has become a fearsome warrior in a short time, and is admired for his patience, intelligence and leadership skills.
